Golden Ratio

At its core, the Golden Ratio describes a natural-looking proportion: one part compared to a slightly larger part (about 1 : 1.618). Rather than feeling symmetrical or evenly split, this relationship creates a sense of movement and visual interest.

When this proportion is translated into a spiral, it suggests a gentle path for the viewer’s eye — moving through the image instead of stopping abruptly. Many artists use this idea to help strengthen focal areas and guide attention through a painting.

This tool lets you place a golden spiral overlay on top of a reference image. You can rotate, scale, and reposition it to explore how key elements sit within the frame and how the eye might naturally travel across the work.

The goal is not precision or perfect alignment. Instead, the spiral acts as a visual reference — a way to sense whether the composition feels balanced, settled, and intentional.
